We use it for babies, we use it for some adults too. Resourceful parents will find ways to save costs by buying them in bulk, at baby fairs, online or medical stores.
Can we live without them? Maybe. But for convenience, I believe many parents would agree that wet wipes are one of the essentials in their young children’s growing up years.
New parents-to-be will be spoilt for choice when it comes to buying wet wipes for their baby and if you are one of them, read through this review of one mummy’s personal and honest opinion on wet wipes*.
*May not necessarily be the same for everyone.
Wet wipes fun fact: Did you know that there is an expiry date for your wet wipes too?
Easily found: Pigeon 100% Pure Water Baby Wipes
Review: Forgot to bring out the baby wipes? No worries, this brand is easily found anywhere! I did find it a little too thin and dry and I need many pieces to clean a poo-stained baby’s bottom, but it did help that a bunch of wipes came out in one pull.
Best for poop: NUK Baby Wipes – By First Few Years
Review: I like that the wipe is thick as I only needed one piece to clean a poo-stained bottom. The size on the packaging mentioned “large”, but in comparison to other wipes, it was only slightly larger. The plus was not about the size but the sheer thickness of the wipe that did the job for me.
The downside of this brand is the sticker seal on the packaging. It became less sticky after opening it a few times, but this is easily rectified by using a wet wipe carrying case. What I didn’t like about it is that a trail of wipes comes out in a single pull.
Picture this: you have one hand holding your baby’s pair of legs and another trying to get a single piece of wet wipe out. It would have been great if I had a third hand to separate the wipes! I overcame this difficulty by preparing the wipes before changing the baby’s diapers.
Value for money: Gentle Care Baby Wipes by RedMart
Review: This is the most value for money baby wipes among those I’ve tried. It may not seem thick but it is moist enough to clean well with one to two pieces. If you are looking for a good bargain, this is the wipe I will recommend.
Softest: Huggies clean care baby wipes
Review: I like that the wipe is very soft as it uses natural fibres. I know of many parent friends who like Huggies, but I prefer my wipes not to be easily torn. It also comes with embossed little bears which is Huggies’ little trademark.
Also, most of the wet wipes I’ve come across is sealed with a sticker seal, so it took me some time to figure out how to open this wet wipe (I blamed the mummy brain 😂).
Best smelling: Pureen Baby Wipes Pink Scented
Review: This is my favourite wipes of all because it has a nice fragrance and it also comes out as a single piece with one pull. Do note that wipes with fragrance may cause skin irritation to baby’s sensitive skin due to the ingredients used. But you can look out for their fragrance-free range.
Here is a summary of the tried and tested wipes. Just so you know, the brands with the red text contain Phenoxyethanol in the ingredients list, though they were listed alcohol-free. (Phenoxyethanol is an ether alcohol which is commonly used in personal care formulations.) That said, I am no chemist to confirm if it is alcohol-free as I picked up this information from the internet.
