Where did February go?

Omigosh, what just happened?

An entire month just whizzed by in a flurry of festivities, and I barely had time to breathe! Well, now that things have settled down a little bit, I thought I would take a moment to chronicle some of the wonderful events of the past month.

1) Caris Turns One!

This was a biggie! Our angelic little girl has turned one year old!

We celebrated her birthday with a lunch gathering for family and friends on a weekend, and on the actual day, brought her to Sentosa to play in the sand.

My baby is growing up so fast, and while I’m mostly relieved to have survived the first year (the 2nd time round, but still…), a small part of me wishes that she would stay a baby forever! Its one of those confusing mommy things, I guess!

And before we even had time to open up Caris’ birthday presents, it was time for another celebration…

2) Chinese New Year!

This year, for the first time, we celebrated Chinese New Year in Ipoh, Malaysia with Tim’s immediate family. The drive there was pleasant as we had a planned stop in Kuala Lumpur for the night. Traffic was also a non-issue as we traveled up on the Sunday (15 Feb) before CNY, a full 3 days before the CNY rush.

The return journey, however, was a completely different matter. We planned to head back on Monday (23 Feb) but for most of that day, traffic on the North-South highway between Ipoh and KL was at a virtual standstill. Thankfully, we could monitor the traffic situation via a mobile app, so we only started our drive after dinner, when traffic had eased up considerably.

Unfortunately, it was still quite a nightmare, as night drives and one-year olds just don’t go well together. Caris woke up every time the car was stationary (at rest stops, tolls, bad traffic situations) and had to be nursed back to sleep each time. And after she slept, I had to gingerly secure her into her car seat without waking her. Needless to say, I did not sleep at all throughout the drive back (but it was also because I wanted to keep Tim company to prevent him from falling asleep at the wheel.)

Despite the tough journey back, we did have some fun times in Ipoh, which I suppose made it worthwhile. Such as:

Caris went for her first swim and LOVED it!

3) A Day Trip to Cameron Highlands!

I’d been bugging Tim to bring the family to Cameron Highlands for quite a while now, and we finally managed to do so! It was such lovely and refreshing weather up there, cool but not too cold. The only downside was that ALOT of other folks had the exact same idea as us to take a short trip there during the ultra-long CNY weekend, so traffic was crazy slow. Nonetheless, we had a great day out!

The best part? Being with extended family meant that we could “gallivant” while grandparents babysat the kid(s)!

All in all, a fantastic, fantabulous February!
