A Weekend to Celebrate

I realise that I’ve been blogging quite a bit about Cristan, but haven’t really written much about Caris. So this post will be focused entirely on our darling little girl, and a couple of firsts for her over the weekend!

On Saturday, Caris celebrated her first-ever National Day! As the weather was good, we decided to head out to Sentosa for some fun in the sun. Of course we all dressed in the festive colours of red and white to commemorate the occasion!

Happy Birthday Singapore!

We were there to check out the “Kampong Spirit” event held at Palawan Beach, but poor Caris couldn’t play with anything, so all she got was this crummy picture under the festive decor.

Cristan had a blast with the retro playground set-up, while I enjoyed a dose of Singlish fun in the form of some creative and amusing tattoos:

Thankfully, both kiddos were in high spirits and it made the day out pretty excellent!

Check out those cheery smiles! A bright and lovely day just got even lovelier!

The next day, 10 August, Caris turned 6 months old!

So we celebrated another milestone: Caris’ first taste of solid food! By the way, I can’t believe how quickly half a year has flown by! Didn’t I give birth to her just a short while ago?!?!

Tim and I had agreed that we will do baby-led weaning (BLW) with Caris, as we have seen the benefits of this approach with Cristan. (For those of you who are keen to read more about BLW and how Cristan loved it, you can check out my previous posts here and here). However, as my father-in-law is currently visiting with us, we decided to put that on hold, and go the traditional route of spoon-feeding porridge for the first few feeds. We figured there’s no need to create unnecessary discomfort or disagreements, and besides, we have lots of time to wean Caris the way we want to, after he leaves at the end of the week!

True to form, our super-duper angel baby was easy-peasy to feed! She readily took to the spoon, swallowing each mouthful like a champ! It was a joy and a breeze to feed her, and everybody eagerly got into the act!

The very first mouthful. Caris gives me a puzzled stare.

Next up, Daddy takes the stage. (As a side note, Caris has got her Daddy wrapped around her little finger, I tell ya…but that’s another story for another day.)

A special moment for Gong Gong, who may have timed his trip here just for this occasion! He told us that he boiled the porridge over a few hours to make it extra soft and smooth!

Totally enjoying this tasty porridge, lovingly cooked by Gong Gong!

And last but definitely not least, the very excited kor kor gets to try his hand at feeding someone else!

For once, Cristan gets to feed rather than be fed!

All in all, a very successful start to weaning! I’m so looking forward to letting her try real solids soon! Stay tuned! 🙂
