My darling boy turns 5 months old today!
What a wonderful day to celebrate, on 11-11-11! To commemorate this occasion, I gave Cristan his first soft toy! It was a gift from a nice friend, but I waited till Cristan was just a little older before letting him have it. Meanwhile, the doggie had been spending some time in Mommy and Daddy’s bed, in a process called “scenting”. I read somewhere that doing this lets the soft toy smell a little bit like us, so that when he’s lying by himself in his cot, he’ll still sense our closeness.
By the way, all these pictures were taken at 11am! So it was 11 @ 11.11.11, haha!
Very unfortunately, I had to fall sick this week, and am right now labouring under a bad throat, runny nose and a terribly fierce cough. So check out what Mommy must do to prevent Cristan from catching the bug?
The first time Cristan saw me wearing the mask yesterday, he looked at me really strangely, stared for the longest time, then broke out into a laugh! Thanks, son…
Anyway, I thought it would be a great time to reflect and marvel at how fast Cristan’s grown in the past 5 months. It seemed just a short while ago that he was a tiny little lump, doing nothing more than sleeping, feeding and crying. It’s simply amazing how fast babies grow, and now he’s able to roll around, laugh out loud, grasp his toys, sit up when propped up and even stand with some assistance!
We’ve even had to lower his cot now that he’s able to push up on his arms quite a fair bit!
He’s FINALLY able to roll himself both ways, instead of rolling onto his tummy and getting stuck, then crying for Mommy for help.
He’s gone swimming, taken all modes of public transportation around town, and even gone overseas already. Phew! What a busy baby he’s been!
As for Tim and I, we’re very happy that we’ve been able to manage on our own, with no live-in help. And we both still hold full-time jobs, though I’m blessed to be able to work from home, which allows me to take care of Cristan. It’s been a little challenging at times, especially when I’ve had to attend several meetings within a week, but we’ve survived so far with the help of wonderful grandparents who are always happy to babysit.
What I find quite hard though, is managing when I’m unwell, like right now. I can’t just lie in bed all day to rest, but still have to be up and about, taking care of Cristan’s needs. I suppose that’s the biggest lesson in parenting – it’s not about me anymore. A monumental shift in perspective has taken place. Happy 5 months, my darling son. You have officially become the centre of my universe!
