Happy 5 months @ 11-11-11!

My darling boy turns 5 months old today!

What a wonderful day to celebrate, on 11-11-11! To commemorate this occasion, I gave Cristan his first soft toy! It was a gift from a nice friend, but I waited till Cristan was just a little older before letting him have it. Meanwhile, the doggie had been spending some time in Mommy and Daddy’s bed, in a process called “scenting”. I read somewhere that doing this lets the soft toy smell a little bit like us, so that when he’s lying by himself in his cot, he’ll still sense our closeness.

Presenting Cristan with his very first soft toy, Woofie!

First order of business - how does Woofie taste?

Who're you lookin' at?

By the way, all these pictures were taken at 11am! So it was 11 @ 11.11.11, haha!

Very unfortunately, I had to fall sick this week, and am right now labouring under a bad throat, runny nose and a terribly fierce cough. So check out what Mommy must do to prevent Cristan from catching the bug?

Hoping the face mask will help prevent the spread of germs

The first time Cristan saw me wearing the mask yesterday, he looked at me really strangely, stared for the longest time, then broke out into a laugh! Thanks, son…

Anyway, I thought it would be a great time to reflect and marvel at how fast Cristan’s grown in the past 5 months. It seemed just a short while ago that he was a tiny little lump, doing nothing more than sleeping, feeding and crying. It’s simply amazing how fast babies grow, and now he’s able to roll around, laugh out loud, grasp his toys, sit up when propped up and even stand with some assistance!

Granted, he's leaning on the sofa and supporting himself with the playgym structure, but he's standing quite steadily nonetheless!

We’ve even had to lower his cot now that he’s able to push up on his arms quite a fair bit!

Daddy hard at work, lowering Cristan's cot

He’s FINALLY able to roll himself both ways, instead of rolling onto his tummy and getting stuck, then crying for Mommy for help.

He’s gone swimming, taken all modes of public transportation around town, and even gone overseas already. Phew! What a busy baby he’s been!

As for Tim and I, we’re very happy that we’ve been able to manage on our own, with no live-in help. And we both still hold full-time jobs, though I’m blessed to be able to work from home, which allows me to take care of Cristan. It’s been a little challenging at times, especially when I’ve had to attend several meetings within a week, but we’ve survived so far with the help of wonderful grandparents who are always happy to babysit.

What I find quite hard though, is managing when I’m unwell, like right now. I can’t just lie in bed all day to rest, but still have to be up and about, taking care of Cristan’s needs. I suppose that’s the biggest lesson in parenting – it’s not about me anymore. A monumental shift in perspective has taken place. Happy 5 months, my darling son. You have officially become the centre of my universe!

Hello Alex, yep Cristan’s an active lil’ fella! And I’m still coughing despite finishing my antibiotics already! Sigh…so tired of wearing the face masks!

Hey Yilin, thanks! It’s kinda our stubborn insistence on having our own privacy, haha! That’s why we’re parenting on our own. But I think with one baby, still possible. Not too sure if we can still have this arrangement when we have our 2nd baby! And yep, I love that pic of Cristan staring at the doggie too! 🙂

Cristan says, thank you Uncle Dannie! I like being 5 months old! 🙂

Wow, at 5 mths he’s able to stand up and push himself up! Hope you’ve recovered from the cough. This round of virus’ really fierce, takes a while to recover even with antibiotics.

Good job, you two 🙂 Always marvel at how you both manage living on your own. Love the pic of Cristan looking straight at his new pet dog.

I’m trying ‘scenting’ too. Quite funny to see Dan’s face when he fishes Coco’s bunny out from under the covers by its ears, looks at me and goes “WTH?!?!?”
