Grandparents’ Week!

Cristan’s been revelling in tons of attention from his doting grandparents this week!

Tim had to travel overseas for work the entire week, so I decided to stay over at my parents’ place for a couple of days. I had planned a few external meetings and needed them to babysit, so it made more sense for both of us to just stay over rather than shuttling to and fro.

It was pretty fun, and I was very glad that Cristan could adapt well to new surroundings easily, hardly fussing at all and sleeping through at night. I was also really glad to have the extra help to take care of Cristan, kinda like a mini-holiday for me!

I think it’s also a good idea to stay over more often from now on, so that Cristan gets the chance to bond with his grandparents. Currently, they pop by to visit about once a week, and we go over sometimes on the weekends, but the interaction is so limited each time! It’s really funny because I observed once that when we have family dinners now, there are 3 young children to mind and everybody’s so preoccupied that there isn’t even any proper conversation going on anymore! It’s fun in a different way, I suppose!

Having an extended length of time with grandparents also meant that they were more hands-on in caring for Cristan, like rocking him to sleep for his naps, and feeding him (when I’m out for my meetings). In fact, my dad finally tried his hand at feeding Cristan for the first time! Quite a milestone!

Overall, I believe my parents enjoyed the time we spent staying over, and I look forward to doing it again soon! The only pain was transporting the 10 million things I needed for Cristan – including his rocker, bathtub, steriliser and my breast pump!

Coincidentally, Tim’s parents also decided to come visit this week! So when we moved back home, Cristan had yet another set of eager grandparents waiting to play with him! My mother-in-law in particular was delighted to see him, as she had gone back to Brunei when Cristan was only 6 weeks old. When she last saw him, he was just this tiny thing, lying there snoozing all day long. Not too fun. Now, he’s a smiling, gurgling drool-monster, grabbing anything within arm’s reach to put into his mouth! It’s really quite heartwarming to see them happily playing with their grandson. Also, I’m glad to have the opportunity to rest and/or concentrate on my work with the extra time I have on hand!

That’s the beauty of children, isn’t it? They bring so much joy and laughter into the home, and really complete family life. Its amazing how one tiny baby can captivate so many grown ups at a time, ALL the time! However bad your day may be, all worries and stress just melt away when you gaze into their cute little faces. It’s quite simply pure joy!

It’s especially true when you are a grandparent. Because at the end of the day, the mommy still has to change the dirty diapers! Ha! =P

Yes thank God for that! Cristan has been a really good and easygoing baby! 🙂 The only thing is that he’s got this deadpan expression most of the time…not as smiley as I hoped, but hey, good enough! Very happy already! Hahaha!
