Finally we did it! A road trip without turning back!

The last time we tried to make a trip to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam for our first holiday without Sophie, we didn’t make it up the plane!  We stopped short at the check-in counter thanks to the wifey, no less, for not having at least 6 months passport validity.  But boy were we glad that happened!

Actually, we barely could make it out of our apartment’s front door followed by the lift door and up the cab as it was our very first time not having Sophie with us.  And we kept discussing about how if she was gonna miss us and the ‘what ifs’, but it seemed we were the ones not ready or prepared to not have her by our side.  So when the airline staff at the airport check-in counter broke the ‘dismal’ news, we were really overjoyed and told her ‘Ok Thank You! BYE!’ and scurried to the cab stand and took the next cab home!

And when Michelle decided to give me a treat to celebrate my birthday by booking 2 night’s stay at Majestic Hotel, Malacca and suggested we drive up, deep down inside I was thinking ‘Are you kidding me sweetheart?’.  It wasn’t that I was being unappreciative of her thoughtfulness, but I mean do you seriously think we could make it this time round?  Yeah, you could say that anytime we miss our daughter, well, we could just chuck a u-turn at the North-South highway?  Haha!  Easier said than done!  Anyway, I played along and thanked her for the arrangement!

The days drew nearer and nothing happened after we left our apartment’s front door, out the lift door, through the Tuas check-point and it turned out we didn’t chuck a U-turn at the North-south highway and eventually made it to Malacca in 2 hours!  Whew!  It was really fun!  I mean, we really had fun in our little adventure of driving into Malaysia!  It wasn’t as scary and we only made 2 phone calls home to check on Sophie in the 2-hour drive!  Lol!  During this time while we are away, my in-laws looked after her.  I am thankful that we have a strong family support network and both Michelle and myself need not worry about Sophie as we know she’s in good hands!

And when we made it to Majestic Hotel, we were really excited and glad that we decided to go ahead with our little escapade!  No marketing intention here but The Majestic Hotel, Malacca is supposed to be the equivalent of Singapore’s Raffles Hotel!  A nice quaint 5-star boutique hotel!  As opposed to The Bayview, across the street where I was put up when I was filming for Channel 8’s Chinese drama titled ‘Together’.  World’s apart, I tell ya!  Thanks Luv for the sweet Birthday Gift!

Another 10 more minutes to go before I turn 35 as I am blogging now!  We did so much the whole of yesterday and today!  Went to Jonker Street, had the famous Hoy Kee chicken rice balls, foot reflex, went to 2 showflats, namely The Straits Residences and Hatten City (anyone keen to invest do let me know — can get discount), shopped at Dataran Pahlawan, strolled around Jalan Melaka Raya, had seafood dinner at Portuguese Settlement (stall #1) and just got back to our cosy room.  Initially, I thought I couldn’t hand in my blog in time but here it is!  Tomorrow, we will be headed to KL to view another showflat (One @ Bukit Ceylon) and of cos to celebrate my birthday and more shopping as well!  After which we will head home the day after!

I am already looking forward to our next holiday without our daughter to have our little ‘Alone Time’!  All thanks to strong family support that wifey and I are able to enjoy our couple getaway!  Am glad my in-laws or my parents always volunteer to take care of Sophie when we are out.  Actually, I’m kinda also looking forward to the day when Sophie’s a lil older then she can join us in our road trips and we will have fun as a family!  Maybe if we do buy a property in Malaysia, then we will have plenty of excuses for more road trips ahead! Guess what?  The clock just ticked past 12 midnight and there are fireworks out the window at the amusement park by the Malacca River!  Hmmm…  Another surprise from the wifey?  (Singing)  Happy Birthday to me!!! Until next time, ciao from Majestic Hotel, Malacca!
