We FINALLY got down to it!
After moaning and groaning (in my last post) about how much we have been procrastinating about getting ready for baby, I’m happy to say we’ve finally made it off the starting block and got down to some serious business this weekend!
Yesterday, we headed to the Baby Fair at the Expo bright and early (well, it WAS considered early for a non-morning person like me on a weekend!) We had planned to reach at 11am, just when the Fair opened, but only made it there at 11.30am. Anyway, within a couple of hours, we managed to bag quite a few of the major essential items! These included the baby cot + mattress, stroller, milk bottles, bottle steriliser, warmer, and a few frivolous but cute things like a beansprout pillow, and a set of bibs with really funny lines like “Poop happens”.
I was also very much blessed by my colleagues, a wonderful bunch of people whom I have the privilege and joy to work with. Earlier this week, I had told one of my colleagues that I was planning to go to the Baby Fair this weekend. Unbeknownst to me, they decided to pass the hat around the office and within a few days, collected a love gift and presented it to me on Thursday, in time for the shopping spree! I was touched beyond words and so thankful to have great friends in my colleagues, who have definitely warmed my heart with their love and care! Here’s a picture of what I managed to purchase through the cash gift:
Today, I rolled up my sleeves, took a deep breath, and dove into the mammoth task of clearing up the junk in my old bedroom. It was painful to start, but once I got into it, it was really not that bad. In fact, it was quite fun to go through various drawers and shelves, filled to the brim with photos, toys and other knick-knacks, and sorting them into boxes for storage, or chucking them into the bin. It allowed me to take a nice trip down memory lane, and the whole experience was kinda cathartic actually!
We also had some time to walk around IKEA today (we have $300 worth of vouchers to spend, thanks to I Love Children and IKEA!), to get a better idea of how we would like to do up the baby room. You’ve gotta love IKEA – they have such great ideas and brilliant storage systems for organising the multitude of baby necessities, not to mention the oh-too-cute toys, beddings and decorative items! It’s so hard to prioritise what we need, versus what I WANT to get!
All in all, I’m pretty proud of the progress we’ve made this weekend. Looks like all the kicking Boubbles is doing in my belly finally succeeded in getting me moving! Hopefully the momentum will continue and we’ll be able to get everything ready in record time! At least before I pop!
