Say “Ah….”

I’m a big fan of grocery shopping. Every time I travel, I try to go to the supermarkets because I love walking along aisles of food. It’s almost comforting to me to be amidst so much food — maybe I have a starvation phobia.

During my confinement, I snuck out and guess where I went? Yes. The supermarket. And I paid special attention to the aisle that I never lingered at in the past. You guessed it again. The baby food section. Dan and I perused rows upon rows of bottled baby food and on impulse, bought several bottles. We Knew she couldn’t have them then, but we were so looking forward to a time when she’d be able to eat them.

You have to understand — food is a big thing in our household. I have a food blog where I share the good eats that Dan has we have. Dan really loves his food — it’s his go-to thing when he’s happy or sad or bored or excited. You get the drift. I kept those bottles of food in the larder and looked at them every once in a while, excited at the thought that she’d be able to take them soon.

As Renee grew, we discovered that she has a special dietary concern — certain foods triggers her eczema. Milk and soy in particular. Yes, that means that I too have to abstain from them because she is totally breastfed (I don’t think there’s a time in my life when I am craving ice cream and chocolates more!). It is most important(for her) to be introduced to new foods one at a time so that we know what she’s sensitive to. We didn’t dare give her the bottled baby food that was for “From 4 months”.

After she hit the 6 month mark, we thought we’d try a little formula. We still haven’t found one that she can take without adverse reaction, but we did find many foods that she can and likes to take =)

In that aspect(and the looks department), she is so much her Daddy’s girl — you can tell she loves her food!

If I don’t tinker around with anything containing milk or cereal, she happily and excitedly eats everything we give her. Beef and potato? Yummy. Sweet potato and chicken? Slurp. Sweet peas and pumpkin and pork? Empty bowl. She is such a joy to feed, even if it’s fruits that require no preparations like bananas or papayas and avocados.

Supermarket shopping is even more fun now, as I’m on a perpetual hunt for new foods that she can have. I google “Foods for 8 months old” while I’m standing in the middle of the fruits/vegetables section to see if she can have that kiwi / cranberry or that asparagus / peppers.

In the past, I’d always tell my grandmother to not cook so much whenever the family gets together. Now, I understand why she does that — there really is a one of a kind joy in watching your loved ones eat the food you prepare.

Hi,

Have you tried Nan HA formula? HA stands for hypoallergenic. I have heard several testimonies from friends that it helped to curb their babies’ eczema problems.

I almost tried it myself, but eventually found that mine tends to have outbreak usually when she perspires rather than dietary concerns.

When my brother was young he too couldn’t consume milk. He’s a lactose intolerant. My parents used to buy peadisure. I thought it’s worth mentioning. Not sure whether it will work or not. Best to consult the doctor.
