We spent most of our “dates” in National Cancer Centre Singapore

When I was diagnosed with lymphoma cancer in 2007, I'd just enrolled in UNISIM, begun a new job, and started dating Jeremy. Our first year together, Jeremy and I spent most of our “dates” in the National Cancer Centre Singapore. He chose to stand by me in sickness and in health, even before we got married.

We decided to try for baby five years after my final chemo session, and I got pregnant on our first try. At our first check-up at the gynae's, I was told that I wasn’t pregnant and that I would never be able to conceive. Devastated, I met my friends for a Karaoke session to destress. Before the night began, I was rushed to the hospital due to bleeding. It turned that I had indeed been pregnant! I heard my precious baby's heartbeat for the first time. Doctors told me that my condition and womb complications would cause a difficult pregnancy and delivery, but I didn’t let that deter me. We welcomed our miracle baby, Chloe, in October 2013.

We tried again for another child, but unfortunately, we faced a few miscarriages due to complications. Today I am a cancer survivor and proud mother. Parenthood has been fulfilling. Love and patience from Jeremy and our family members have kept me going. To parents who are facing adversities, my advice is to always seek help and to begin journaling to cope with stress. It was through journaling that I was able to look forward to a brighter future.
