"The news wasn’t totally unexpected, given that we had been trying for a child for a long time, without success."
We have been happily married for three years and counting. One year into our marriage, we decided that we wanted to start a family. As such, we tried for a baby for two years, but to no avail.
One day, we came across I Love Children’s Facebook page, where we learnt more about the importance of fertility health checks. We thought that there was no harm in setting up an appointment to find out if either of us had any fertility issues.
Much to our dismay, the doctor told us that Joanna had endometriosis, a condition whereby the cells of the uterine lining grow outside of the uterus. The news wasn’t totally unexpected, given that we had been trying for a child for a long time, without success.
However, we didn’t let the bad news get us down. Instead, we decided to be proactive and started researching about fertility treatments. Today, we are in the midst of preparing for intra-uterine insemination (IUI), a treatment that involves the placement of quality sperm inside the uterus to facilitate fertilisation. We are also currently consulting Traditional Chinese Medicine doctors, as we hope that TCM will complement the IUI treatment.
We’re positive about the future, and eventually hope to have three or four kids. We grew up in big families, and our childhoods were filled with lots of laughter and support. We would love to be able to provide the same kind of environment for our children in future.
Update: Jeffrey and Joanna went through a Superovulation & Intrauterine Insemination (SO-IUI) and today, they have a healthy baby girl, Janelle in September 2018.
